Welcome. Have you always wanted to be able to play music? Have you been dreaming about playing a particular instrument, but just never got around to it? Don’t be left behind like everyone who says they wish they had…Get going now, and you will feel great playing the music you love as a fun,
positive part of your life.
_The Benefits of Starting Right Now:
· Add a whole new positive, fun, and cool dimension to your life.
· Learn to play your favorite songs in a relaxed, enjoyable and supportive environment.
· Gain confidence.
· Enjoy playing music with friends/family.
· Form a band!
Our goal is that you will learn to play your instrument well and that you will always feel at ease at Newport Guitar and Music. If you already have an instrument, we will check to see that it is right for your age and size, finger strength and the type of music you want to play. It may be fine or just take a little adjustment-we also do restringing. If you don’t have one, we carry a wide variety of quality instruments and accessories at great prices and we will gladly demonstrate what each body style does best. Purchasing an instrument is an important step that should also be fun!
In your very first lesson you will learn how to strum and play a song with chords.
You can then sing and play with your friends and family. We find out a little about you and we ask about your musical goals. Of course you may ask questions of the teacher, as well. You’ll also learn the parts of your instrument and the names of the strings, to help you keep in tune and tune up when playing with others.
After a few lessons, you may want to “jam” with another student(s) of your level. We’ll combine your lesson time with theirs for a double or triple length lesson. You get to meet and play with potential outside jamming partners. It’s really fun to see that it sounds far better than you thought it would; more than the sum of the individual parts. That’s one of the thrills of jamming.
Though most of the lessons are about learning the songs you like, at Newport Guitar and Music you’ll also get the following:
- A history of the guitar
- Proper technique for smooth and quick playing
- Reading music on the staff, both notes and chords, and reading tablature
- Music theory, notation and symbols and how it pertains to the guitar, bass, or ukulele and the keyboard
- Major composer’s lives and samples of their works
- Instruments of the orchestra, visually and audibly
- How to use your equipment to get the sounds you want

Welcome. There are many people who have played at one time in their lives and who, for one reason or another, had to take some time off. Now they find themselves with a little more time---the kids are grown, they’ve retired, they finally want to “know” what they are playing (music theory) or they just reflected on the good times they had playing and wanted to “get back into it.” Whatever your past experience may be or your reason for returning, we’re here to help you.
Next we’ll assess what you remember and your technique. Then we can recommend a fun and easy path to your musical goal. You’ll be playing again, and after a few lessons, you may want to “jam” with another student(s) of your level. We’ll combine your lesson time with theirs for a double or triple length lesson. You get to meet and play with potential outside jamming partners. It’s really fun to see that it sounds far better than you thought it would; more than the sum of the individual parts.
